Before seeding the area, we mix the seed with inert kitty litter with no perfumes, dyes or other active ingredients. This helps to thin out the mixture for ease of spreading and prevents large clumps of seed from landing close to each other. Also, the kitty litter acts as a visible marker of where seed has been placed and how heavy it’s been spread. The bare soil is raked to break up any large clumps of dirt and seed is then thrown down to cover the soil. The area is raked again to allow the seed to contact as much soil as possible. The seeds are then watered and covered with the erosion control blanket by flipping the blankets back over onto the streambank.
