DIGITAL GRAPHICS INTERNSHIP OR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNTIY
The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, a dynamic and multifaceted non-profit conservation organization, is seeking assistance in organizing, managing and converting their large stores of images and electronic documents.
The Watershed Association is dedicated to protecting clean water and the environment in the 265-square mile region of central New Jersey drained by Stony Brook and the Millstone River. The Association's offices are located on an 860-acre nature reserve. The Association operates a nature center, summer camp, and extensive environmental education program; works with towns, citizens, and businesses to improve land use decisions; and conducts stream monitoring and restoration efforts.
Interns and volunteers will help in converting traditional slides into digital images, organizing and inventorying existing digital image files and converting older electronic documents to a standardized and updated digital format.
Candidates should be comfortable with basic computer operations for the Windows operating system with specific knowledge and skills with one or more of the following applications: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Pagemaker, QuarkXpress, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Corel Paint Shop Pro and GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP). Familiarity with macro programming or routine automation is a plus.
Great for Information Systems Management, Library Science or Graphics Design students! Internships offer no monetary compensation, only valuable hands-on experience. Working hours are flexible, but program-stipulated hours required for a passing grade will be tracked and reported to your institution. All coop coordination, paperwork and reporting procedures required by your program must be provided to the Watershed Association and completed before starting the internship in order to participate and receive credit.
Volunteers are asked to make a minimal 4 hours per week commitment. Opportunities to assist in the creation of new layouts to build your portfolio and will be allowed to use equipment and programs for personal projects within reason and as time and access permits.

GIS INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES - SUMMER & FALL OPENINGS AVAILABLE
The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, a dynamic and multifaceted non-profit conservation organization, is seeking Geographic Information System (GIS) interns.
The Watershed Association is dedicated to protecting clean water and the environment in the 265-square mile region of central New Jersey drained by Stony Brook and the Millstone River. The Association's offices are located on an 860-acre nature reserve. The Association operates a nature center, summer camp, and extensive environmental education program; works with towns, citizens, and businesses to improve land use decisions; and conducts stream monitoring and restoration efforts.
GIS interns will help in creating maps to support the Association's programs, organizing existing GIS data sets, gathering new data sets, and maintaining the internet map server for the GIS Center at Stony Brook.
Candidates should be knowledgeable of GIS concepts and have experience with a GIS software package - preferably ESRI ArcGIS, Open-source GRASS or Manifold. Familiarity with environmental science, GIS-based environmental analysis, VBA, Javascript, XML, and HTML is a plus.
The internships offer no monetary compensation, only valuable hands-on experience and training. Working hours are flexible, but a minimal 4 hours per week commitment is preferred.
