Butterfly House Programs Run All Summer Long

The Kate Gorrie Butterfly House has been fluttering with activity this summer. Visitors are eager to learn all about our winged friends and their journey through the Watershed Reserve. Take a look at all of our Butterfly House programs for the season and be sure register for an event before they fly away.

The handicap accessible Butterfly House is free to the public, open daily from dawn until dusk through late September. Registration is required for all programs except where noted.

If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, graduation, or special occasion, private tours are available with our knowledgeable Teacher-Naturalists.

Weekly Tours

Wednesdays, 10:30– 11:30AM
Adults and Families, $5 per person

Join one of our Teacher-Naturalists for a guided tour of the butterfly house.  Bring your camera and a water bottle.  The Watershed Center and butterfly house are handicap-accessible.  If time allows, we will head into the fields to try our hand at catching butterflies with nets.  Registration suggested, drop-ins welcome. Butterfly Tea Parties

Families (children 3-10), Fee per child: $10M/$15NM

Join the Teacher-Naturalists for a lesson about native butterflies and their life cycles.  After a tour of the butterfly house, we will head into the fields to try to catch butterflies in our nets.  Then return for a tea party of lemonade, sugar cookies and a story under our tent!  Adults must stay with children.  Space is limited and registration is required. Power of Pollinators

River-Friendly Workshop  |  Saturday, July 29

Families, $20 per person/ $15 for River-Friendly Residents

Join Rutgers University Scientist Mike Roswell as he presents on the amazing pollinators found in the Watershed Reserve’s meadows and forest. Following the indoors presentation, we will take a walk to meet some of these beneficial insects in their natural environment.

17th Annual Butterfly Festival

Wings over the Watershed  |  Saturday, August 12

Adults & Families, $10 per person or $25 per carload

This year’s festival includes a lot of new games and activities for the whole family. Prepare for an obstacle course and dunk tank, hay rides, nature walks, live music, and the best local food. Tour exhibits, the famed insect zoo, and the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House. Click to learn more!
