Clean a Stream with REI

June 1st, 2017

Join the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association in supporting REI and United By Blue for a stream cleanup in Trenton, Wednesday, June 7 from 5-7pm. The cleanup will take place along the D&R Canal at 33 Tucker Street, Trenton, NJ 08618.

United by Blue has partnered with over 10 REI stores in the northeastern United States for a two week cleanup road trip. Help us celebrate World Ocean’s Day (6/8) and National Trails Day (6/3) with a cleanup of the Delaware and Raritan Canal!

Originally the canal was intended as a transportation route for freight between Philadelphia and New York City. Today the D&R canal and it’s adjacent path provide ample recreation opportunity for fisherman, walkers, runners and bikers. Given it’s proximity to industrial and urban areas, trash and litter often find their way into the canal. Once debris makes it’s way into the canal, it’s difficult to retrieve before it makes it to the Atlantic Ocean. Help us preserve this waterway for generations to come!

United By Blue and REI will provide water, trash bags, supplies, and gloves as well as Clif Bars for volunteers. All volunteers will have the chance to win prizes during two cleanup games: weirdest trash find and total weight guess. All volunteers will also receive an exclusive Cleanup Crew trucker hat! Groups of all sizes are welcome!

Please wear closed toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or wet.

Volunteer for this Stream Cleanup!
