Urge Your Legislator To Ban Single-Use Bags And Polystyrene

December 18th, 2019

New Jersey is poised to join eight other states in banning the use of single-use plastic bags.  We need your support to ensure that our state legislature passes a pending bill that would do so. Please contact your legislator and urge them to pass S2776.

S2776 sets out strong protections for NJ.

  • It will phase out both plastic and paper bags within one year.
  • It will phase out “Styrofoam” food takeout containers within two years.
  • It will phase out the use of single-use plastic straws. Straws will only be available upon request.

Currently, 100 billion single-use plastic carryout bags and 2 billion Styrofoam plastic coffee cups are thrown out in the United States each year.  Less than 10 percent of all plastic is recycled in NJ.

Plastic waste is appearing everywhere from New Jersey streams to ocean garbage patches and Arctic ice flows.

S2766 will help NJ address this problem.  Please call or email your legislator to support this bill.
