We love seeing people enjoying the 10 miles of trails in the 950-mile Watershed Reserve and our half-mile accessible boardwalk that is under construction.
Occasionally, we close certain trails to create a healthy forest ecosystem with native undergrowth. Emerging growth replaces old trees, provides small animal habitat, and helps maintain water and soil health.
Over-browsing by white-tailed deer can eliminate native undergrowth, allowing for the proliferation of invasive plant species. Population studies at the Watershed Reserve have revealed a density of deer that is up to 15x the level recommended by ecologists.
The Watershed employs several techniques to combat overgrazing, including deer exclusion fencing, native reforestation, and hunting. Unauthorized hunting is prohibited.
Visitors are advised to wear fluorescent orange to be seen and safe!
