When road salt is used to melt ice and snow, it eventually runs off into the soil and into nearby waterways. The combined effect of residents applying salt to driveways and sidewalks during winter storms is detrimental to our waterways.
As a result, the amount of road salt is increasing in New Jersey’s freshwater streams. Help The Watershed Institute’s Watershed Watch Network quantify the impact of road salt by monitoring a stream or lake near you!
