The Watershed Institute Celebrates its Supporters, Staff, and Friends at its Annual Meeting

PENNINGTON, NJ, May 4, 2026– The Watershed Institute celebrated 76 years of protecting clean water and healthy watersheds with more than 100 supporters, staff, and friends at its 2026 Annual Meeting on Monday, April 27, 2026. The meeting took place at the Watershed Center, the organization’s LEED-Platinum headquarters, on its 950-acre nature reserve.

“With the federal government stepping back from its previous commitments to environmental protection and climate change bearing down on us, our work is more important than ever and demands greater collaboration with state and local government, academia, professionals, and passionate community members,” said Jim Waltman, the organization’s executive director. “The annual meeting is a great time to celebrate and thank our supporters, volunteers and partners for their commitment to this mission and the many successes that we’ve enjoyed together.”

Acting NJDEP Commissioner Ed Potosnak was the featured guest speaker for the evening. He addressed the audience about his challenges and plans for his term as commissioner. “DEP is incredibly grateful to have partners like The Watershed Institute in this critical work to safeguard our environment, public health and safety,” said Potosnak. “Collaborating is key as we work to address water quality, flooding and resilience in order to keep New Jersey waters clean, safe and healthy.”

The Watershed Institute honored outstanding leaders and partners for their invaluable contributions. The Edmund W. Stiles Award for Environmental Leadership was awarded to Mark Herrmann, Engineer and Lori Savron, Administrator of Montgomery Township, a key partner of The Watershed Institute in advancing regional, watershed restoration plans. The Richard Rotter Award for Excellence in Environmental Education was awarded to Dr. Lauren Madden, PhD, Professor of Elementary Science Education at The College of New Jersey.
