The Watershed Institute Celebrated 50 Years of Watershed Fest
Annual Fundraiser Marks Half a Century of Community Support for Clean Water and a Healthy Environment — proving saving the environment can be fun
The Watershed Institute celebrated the 50th Watershed Fest, its premier annual fundraising event supporting clean water and a healthy environment for New Jersey. This year’s milestone celebration, with the theme, Streams and Dreams, will took place on the evening of Saturday, October 4 under the big tent at the Watershed Reserve in Pennington.
What began in 1976 as a modest gathering of neighbors and environmental advocates has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated galas. Over the past five decades, Watershed Fest has united thousands of community members, elected leaders, educators, and business partners to raise millions of dollars for environmental education, advocacy, science, and stewardship programs that protect water and wildlife across central New Jersey.
“Our 50th Fest is not just a celebration of the past, but a commitment to the future,” said Jim Waltman, Executive Director of The Watershed Institute. “For fifty years, our supporters have helped us safeguard streams, protect open space, and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. This anniversary is a testament to the power of community action for clean water and healthy ecosystems.”
“As someone who has been part of FEST for many years, I can tell you that this event is so much more than a party—it’s a celebration of our community’s love for clean water, healthy lands, and each other,” said Meg Gorrie, longtime supporter of The Watershed Institute. “Year after year, FEST brings together friends old and new to support the Watershed’s mission and to ensure that future generations can enjoy the natural treasures we cherish. Plus, it’s so much fun!”
Funds raised during Watershed Fest directly support year-round efforts, including environmental education for thousands of students, advocacy for stronger flood and water-quality protections, and hands-on conservation work across the region.
The Watershed Institute invites community members, businesses, and friends old and new to join in this milestone celebration. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for organizations wishing to demonstrate their commitment to protecting clean water and the environment.
Over the years, Watershed Fest has delighted guests with an array of imaginative themes—from October Fest and FESTival de Cannes to Platinum & Pearls, FEST, Rattle, and Roll, Passport to Cuba, Under the Autumn Moon, and last year’s unforgettable 75th Jubilee. Each celebration has been unique, but all have shared the same spirit: a night of fun, friendship, and support for clean water. This year’s theme, Streams & Dreams, carried on that tradition with an evening of fun and inspiration.
