Annual Solstice Trail Run Raises Nearly $30,000 to Support Watershed Conservation and Education Initiatives

July 5th, 2023

The Annual Solstice Trail Run, hosted by The Watershed Institute, saw runners of all levels come together on Wednesday, June 21 for an unforgettable day of outdoor adventure, camaraderie, and environmental stewardship. The event, held at The Watershed Institute’s scenic 950-acre reserve, showcased the beauty of nature while raising nearly $30,000 to support the Watershed’s vital conservation and education initiatives.

“Together, we are making a tangible difference in environmental conservation, advocacy, science and education.” said Watershed Executive Director Jim Waltman. “It is exhilarating to celebrate the power of community and the beauty of nature as we continue to work towards a sustainable future.”

As the sun set on race day, about 300 participants showcased their endurance and determination, tackling the challenging 5K, 10K, and 15K trails. Runners conquered winding paths and rocky terrain, all while soaking in the breathtaking surroundings of The Watershed Institute. The event embodied the spirit of athleticism and love for nature, inspiring runners to push their limits and celebrate their accomplishments.

After crossing the finish line, runners and supporters alike gathered under the tent from 7-9 p.m. to celebrate their achievements. The post-race party provided a well-deserved opportunity to relax and revel in the shared experiences of the day. The air was filled with the sounds of music, and the inviting firepit offered a cozy setting for making complimentary s’mores. Quenching their thirst, participants had the chance to savor the delicious beverages served by our beer sponsor, Old Hights Brewing Company of Hightstown. Additionally, pizza was available for purchase from Antimo’s Italian Kitchen of Hopewell, ensuring everyone left with satisfied appetites.

The Solstice Trail Run celebrated individual accomplishments and recognized exceptional achievements. Medals were awarded to the first, second, and third place finishers in various categories, honoring their dedication, skill, and perseverance. Winners for various age categories for the men’s and women’s divisions also were given awards. The top male and female winners of the 5K were Eric Feigenbaum of Windsor and Meghan Bruce of Princeton. The winners of the 10k were Aaron Tutten-Lanca of Frenchtown and Laura Barnes of Carlisle, Pa. The winners of the 15K were Scott Sullivan of Trenton and Greta Nelson of Princeton.

The success of the Solstice Trail Run would not have been possible without the support of our participants, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. The Watershed Institute extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and resources to make this event a resounding success.
