Current Grant Cycle
The Watershed Institute’s Small Grant Program supports local watershed, conservation, and community-based nonprofits in their work to protect our state’s environment and inspire a shared vision for the stewardship of New Jersey’s watersheds. The focus of our grants program is environmental education, policy and outreach, specifically as it relates to our grant program’s Eligible Actions: Water Quality Science and Education, Stormwater Policy, Green Infrastructure and Climate Change Resiliency.

Statement on Environmental Justice
We also consider how environmental justice and equity relates to each of these targeted actions and aim to fund projects that benefit vulnerable communities. The Watershed Institute understands these communities have experienced disproportionate environmental impacts due to socioeconomic, racial, cultural, and historic disparities. Projects that address education and outreach that addresses injustices tied to water & stormwater pollution, contamination, flooding, and disproportionate climate impacts, will be given higher consideration. We hope by funding projects in under-resourced and under-represented communities across the state, the residents of these communities will receive vital education, outreach, and attention on these critical issues. The Watershed Institute values justice, equity, diversity, & inclusion.
Guidelines to a Strong Proposal
We are no longer accepting Letters of Interest (LOIs) for the 2021 – 2022 Grant Cycle. Thank you to all those who submitted an LOI for review.
To those invited to propose, please make sure to consider the Application Evaluation checklist on page 4 of the 2021 – 2022 Grant Program Description. Additionally, you can refer to the presentation below for tips and an overview of the grant application process. This presentation was given to prospective applicants on July 12th, 2021 during a short Q&A session. It also includes answers to questions about eligibility, eligible funds, and general grant requirements.
